About The Position

The Regional Chief Information Officer (Regional CIO) serves as the senior IS\&T executive for one or more defined MultiCare Health System regions. This role contributes to enterprise and regional strategy, ensuring alignment between system-wide IS\&T priorities and the operational, clinical, and strategic needs of local hospitals, service lines, ambulatory networks, and clinical practice areas. The Regional CIO works closely with hospital Presidents, operational leaders, physician executives, and Medical Informatics partners on region-specific initiatives, technology enablement, and operational optimization. This role represents the regional voice within enterprise IS\&T governance and ensures that regional operational realities inform system planning and execution. As a member of the IS\&T senior leadership team, the Regional CIO partners closely with the Chief Information Officer, Chief Technology Officer, matrixed Chief Financial Officer, Chief Health Information Officer, Chief Nursing Information Officer, Chief Security Information Officer, Associate Chief Medical Information Officer, VP of Applications, President of CareConnect, and other executive stakeholders. The position emphasizes collaborative planning, operational oversight, and delivery of IS\&T services within the enterprise hybrid operating model. The Regional CIO also plays a critical role in evaluating and supporting growth initiatives, including Merger & Acquisition (M\&A) activities, Joint Ventures, and strategic partnerships, ensuring technology integration, risk evaluation, and operational readiness across all regions. Internal contacts require establishing strong working relationships with staff, clinicians, administrative leaders, and service providers across the health system. The role also involves extensive external engagement, including with vendors, consultants, regulatory bodies, peer organizations, and community partners. Regional leaders may operate within a dual matrixed reporting structures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in information technology leadership and resource management.
  • Strong understanding of hospital and ambulatory operations, including demonstrated leadership in complex clinical environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive management experience; executive‑level experience preferred.
  • Strong background in systems integration, enterprise operations, and large-scale program oversight.
  • Experience with M&A or JV technology integration preferred.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency across IS\&T operational domains, including technology infrastructure, applications, security, informatics, and service management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive IS\&T leadership across all assigned MHS regions, aligning regional needs with enterprise IS\&T strategy, architecture, and operational models.
  • Partner with regional hospital Presidents and clinical/operational leaders to identify technology opportunities that improve clinical care, operational performance, and patient experience.
  • Serve as the regional executive sponsor for IS\&T initiatives, ensuring effective prioritization, delivery, and change management.
  • Support and operationalize the IS\&T hybrid operating model, ensuring clarity of roles, accountability, service-level performance, and strong collaboration between central IS\&T teams and regional operations.
  • Lead and support IS\&T contributions to Mergers & Acquisitions, including due diligence, capability assessment, integration planning, and transition execution.
  • Partner with system leadership on Joint Ventures and strategic partnerships, ensuring technology alignment, interoperability, compliance, and security.
  • Build and sustain a high-performing regional IS\&T leadership presence, fostering collaboration, communication, and service excellence.
  • Manage regional IS\&T budgets in partnership with system finance, ensuring responsible stewardship and alignment with system fiscal strategies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, professional organizations, and regional stakeholders to support market growth and operational excellence.
  • Represent regional needs within enterprise IS\&T governance, ensuring that system strategy reflects operational realities.
  • Utilize data, analytics, and performance metrics to guide decision-making, optimize operations, and ensure accountability.
