The Regional Associate Director is a senior leader within Planning Services and has a direct responsibility for a segment of business operations for a geographic region. The Associate Director helps define the strategic direction of Planning Services while providing personnel and client management oversight. The Associate Director is considered a Leader of Leaders within Gordian. The Associate Director engages with various functional groups including operations, executive leadership, product development, finance, marketing, customer success and sales. The Associate Director role has four primary areas of focus: Personnel administration, (hiring, management, and coaching); client relations and project execution oversight; revenue generation and forecasting; and proposal writing and fee-setting for projects in support of the sales team. The Associate Director is responsible for supporting project teams through clear communication of responsibilities, providing on the job coaching, and linking project opportunities and experiences to team members career development. The Associate Director tracks and supports key performance indicators for the business as it relates to their responsibilities and for the group at large and for individuals within the team. The Associate Director both serves and advocates for the client and contributes to the professional development of their team. The Associate Director may have from 3-7 team members as direct reports to manage, with each of those team members having 3-7 direct reports on their teams. Thus, the Associate Director is leading a large team of 10 – 20 Gordian employees. Gordian also utilizes the services of outside contractors, and the Associate Director has various responsibilities to interact with and manage the work of these individuals. The Associate Director is considered the intermediate to expert point in senior operations leadership and reports to the Regional Director of Planning Services. Location: Remote (In-office available in some locations); near major airport This position works remotely, with up to 30% travel. Travel may include client site meetings, executive presentations to leadership and internal travel for business operations and strategy meetings. Additional travel as a subject matter expert may be required for sales and marketing meetings and events.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4-year bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited institution, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of project management experience in an architectural, engineering, facilities management, operations management, construction management or other closely allied role related to buildings and infrastructure.
  • 5+ years of people management experience in a team environment and experience managing remotely based operations.
  • 7+ years account management experience, and the ability to demonstrate success in forecasting, maintaining, and exceeding revenue targets on a regular basis.
  • Strong public speaking skills including experience in developing presentation materials.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills/ability to manage multiple Account Managers.
  • Confident communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all levels of internal and external organizations to drive positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure, exercise good judgment, and act in a professional manner when challenged; and to build and sustain positive and collaborative working relationships.
  • Sound decision making in a fast-paced environment; a consultative approach to managing complex relationships, escalation problem solving, internal and external risk management.
  • Strong data analytical skills including the ability to support team members through KPI data tracking.
  • Has a track record of driving continuous improvement and sustainability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and willingness to be flexible if priorities change.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Strategic Direction for the Department and Contribute to the Success of the Team: Partner with the aligned Regional Director of Planning Services and the Planning Services leadership team to define, implement, and achieve departmental goals. This includes the oversight of a department execution plan to both achieve goals as well as evolve the department to respond to needs of a growing company. Builds energy and optimism in others in support of our strategy and shared purpose. Assure the department’s profitability by monitoring client billings and managing the backlog effectively. Manage the workflow of the department by allocating resources for all engagements and addressing gaps in the project team’s abilities. Act as a resource, coach, and mentor for the department, which includes assisting in professional development plans for personnel to ensure each team member has the tools and knowledge needed to be successful. Provides their team clear vision and direction, short and long term. Collaborates, motivates, and empowers others on the team to exceed expectations. Thinks beyond the day-to-day, taking a long-term, big picture view of the business. Owns the process for hiring team members, including requests that consider team and departmental budgets, supports recruiting through resume review, conducting interviews and leading hiring decisions and offers. Onboarding new Area Managers and Senior Account Managers with Creation of development plans. Understand and apply internal Fortive Business System tools to drive continuous improvement within their team, the department, and the company. Takes ownership of one's own development by articulating focus areas and requesting support to help achieve desired outcomes. Expected to complete leadership courses as identified by Gordian.
  • Support Business Development for New and Existing Clients Support sales and marketing as Subject Matter Expert for all Planning Service Solutions. Leads and drives renewals in collaboration with sales at contract expiration. Supports Area Manager and Account Manager cross-sell and upsell opportunities of all Gordian solutions and collaborates with regional sales account executive to develop further. Delivers thought leadership to the industry. Participates in the improvement of our products, in response to industry needs, team and customer feedback. Reviews and offers guidance on RFP’s. Provide subject matter expertise to Regional Account Executives and help develop sales strategies for upsells and prospects. Provides start of month and mid-month revenue forecast updates as part of their regional financial forecast responsibility. Any variants of forecast to budget will include comments and backup to the Regional Director in support. Develops strategies to close gaps between forecast and actuals by way of shifting work and resources when possible.
  • Project Management – For Regional Team Proactively sets the pace for the team, anticipating time requirements inclusive of potential obstacles and outside influences. Daily management and tracking of all AM projects within Associate Director’s responsibility. Ensures all areas of service and deliverables, as detailed in scope of work and contract terms, are being met. Ensures data integrity for all assigned accounts. Clearly and concisely conveys information and direction for a project team in alignment with departmental objectives. Leverages feedback and implements strategies to improve team effectiveness. Anticipates and proactively requests resources to support operational needs to deliver our contracted planning solutions to our customers. Works cooperatively with other Project Team Leaders, Account Managers, Account Executives, Operations Manager, Facilities Consultants, and others. Creates a team atmosphere that is intellectually challenging and leads to team success. Escalates any operational obstacles or identified risks (services and product) that may impede delivery to the aligned Regional Director and/or Vice President or other functional team Senior Leader for awareness and support.
