About The Position

Join our early childhood education team supporting children and families across San Luis Obispo County. As the Regional Assistant Director, you’ll help lead daily operations for Head Start, Early Head Start, and State Child Development programs. You’ll supervise Area Managers and content area staff, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and help foster a positive, supportive environment for staff and families. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field
  • 6 Administration units and 2 Adult Supervision units (or ability to obtain within one year)
  • 3–5 years of program management experience, including 2 years supervising staff
  • Experience with Head Start, Early Head Start, Migrant & Seasonal Head Start, and State child care contracts
  • Experience supporting multilingual and multicultural early childhood settings
  • Child Development Site Supervisor Permit (Program Director Permit required within 2 years)
  • Has a dependable, insured transportation and valid California driver’s license (mileage reimbursed) and acceptable driving record. A DMV printout and proof of insurance will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director in planning, implementing, and evaluating federal and state‑funded programs
  • Supervise Area Managers and content area staff, providing coaching and performance evaluations
  • Ensure compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and state regulations
  • Assist with facility oversight, inspections, and licensing requirements
  • Provide training and consultation to staff, parents, and volunteers
  • Support budget development and monitor program expenditures
  • Track enrollment, attendance, staffing levels, and related costs
  • Participate in audits, reviews, and annual Self‑Assessments
  • Collaborate on grants, funding applications, and facility development
  • Build strong community partnerships and support public relations efforts
