About The Position

The Region Technical Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining high quality standards across multiple manufacturing sites, utilizing data analytics to optimize production processes. This role involves managing all aspects of the quality control department, including budget development, performance monitoring, and team scheduling. The manager oversees the technical aspects of engineered wood products and plywood manufacturing facilities, such as laminated veneer lumber, prefabricated I-joist, plywood, PLV, and veneer production. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with quality control manuals and safety regulations, coordinating with the Division Engineering Department and Research and Development lab, and managing plant raw material qualifications in collaboration with vendors. The position also requires timely and accurate data collection and reporting, applying statistical control methodologies, and participating in regional improvement processes. The ideal candidate should reside within commutable distance to an Eastern Region WP location (AL, FL, or SC) and be prepared for medium to heavy travel.

Requirements

• College degree, preferably in engineering, Wood Science, business, or manufacturing.
• At least seven (7) years of experience in related job function.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to comprehend mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems within operation process.
• Knowledge and understanding of industrial costs and their control.
• Strategic long term and tactical implementation strategy skills.
• Medium to heavy travel required.
• Ideal candidate to live within commutable distance to one of the Eastern Region WP locations (AL, FL or SC).

• Six Sigma Certification or Statistical Process Control understanding.

Responsibilities

• Establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of quality at multiple manufacturing sites and utilizes data analytics to monitor and optimize production processes.
• Manages all aspects of the quality control department including developing operating budget, monitoring performance, and scheduling of the QC team.
• Oversees all technical aspects of engineered wood products and plywood manufacturing facility which include laminated veneer lumber, prefabricated I-joist, plywood, PLV and the production of veneer.
• Assure compliance to established quality control manual and all applicable standards.
• Assure compliance to all safety regulations as set forth by the corporate and regional safety managers.
• Works in coordination with the Division Engineering Department and Research and Development lab which support the technical aspects of the position.
• Coordinates all plant raw material qualifications as outlined in the quality control manual. Works closely with all raw material vendors and their associated technical groups.
• Responsible for timely and accurate data collection and reporting. This includes analyzing and applying appropriate statistical control methodologies.
• Participates in the region improvement (BIC) process working with operations and maintenance personnel.
