About The Position

The City of Lakewood is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of (1) one Refuse Driver in the Refuse and Recycling Division. This is a full‐time, AFSCME Bargaining Unit position with an hourly rate of $29.91 - $30.46. Normal working hours are Monday - Friday 6:30AM – 2:30PM. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have the knowledge and ability to operate a packer truck, automated and semi- automated trucks, recycling truck and Kubota; must have the ability to work alone as an automated recycle and garbage Operator; must have the ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) frequently throughout the course of the workday; must have the ability to complete the daily assignment in a timely manner; must have good oral and written communication skills; must possess the ability to get in and out of a vehicle frequently throughout the workday; must have the ability to work in extreme weather conditions; must have full use of arms and hands; must have the ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance; must have the knowledge of safe work practices; must have the ability to work with garbage and pungent odors throughout the workday. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision. Must have a good work record. Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED. Must have a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with less than eight (8) points. May be required to participate in testing at the discretion of the City. Must satisfactorily complete a physical examination and police background investigation. GENERAL INFORMATION: This is a union position, and the employee may be required to work overtime pursuant to the provisions of Article 5 and Article 15 of the current negotiated agreement.
