About The Position

We’re looking for a detailed, organized, self-motivated individual to join our Refunds Team! If you have a positive attitude, are good at multi-tasking, and can prioritize your daily workload efficiently, this job is for you. This position is responsible for processing transactions for patient and insurance refunds while providing support for our outlying dental offices including fielding calls from patients and insurance companies. With more than 1,800 dental offices supported across 39 states, over 10,000 team members and over 3,000 supported doctors in our support, Heartland Dental has a proven track record of growth and success. We’re looking for professional individuals who are open, positive and mentally flexible to join our network of support. The position reports to the Refunds Team Manager and will also support key initiatives (goals) of the Accounting-Refunds team.

Requirements

  • Completion of one of the following: Two years of accounting or insurance experience OR Associate degree and not less than one year of accounting or insurance experience.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to answer telephone calls and communicate information to callers
  • High level of maturity, personal initiative, and sound judgment

Responsibilities

  • Audit patient accounts in Microsoft Excel to process patient and insurance refunds
  • Review Explanation of Benefits from Insurance Companies to verify payments and refunds issued
  • Respond to inquiries in writing using Microsoft Outlook and over the phone regarding payments, adjustments, account balances, etc.
  • Prepare release forms using Microsoft Office for patients and work with supported offices to determine a fair and reasonable resolution to the patient concerns
  • Report incorrect billing issues, patient concerns, etc. to management as issues arise
  • Field all requests from operations and other home office departments on various questions
  • Work on special projects as assigned
