About The Position

Trident Seafoods is the largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company in North America. Trident is a privately held, 100 percent USA-owned company with primary seafood processing operations and fleet support in twelve Alaska communities. Species harvested and processed by Trident include virtually every commercial species of salmon, whitefish, and crab harvested in the North Pacific and Alaska. Summary: Repairs and maintains refrigeration units and mechanical equipment aboard vessel.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience using general refrigeration competencies, including but not limited to ammonia and/or Freon systems repair.
  • EPA 608 Certification required
  • Must be capable of boarding and departing (exiting) a vessel without assistance by moving up or climbing a gangplank, the stern ramp of a vessel and/or a vertical ladder.
  • Must be capable of boarding/departing the vessel by being lifted in a crane or manlift.
  • May also enter and exit a skiff from a dock, plane, or a boat unassisted.
  • Must meet at designated locations to receive instructions and place on a life jacket and an immersion suit without assistance in one minute or less.
  • Must also move quickly without assistance to any designated lifeboat station.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and tests system operation using gauges and instruments.
  • Adjust valves according to specifications and charges system with proper type of refrigerant by pumping the specified gas or fluid into system.
  • Tests lines, components, and connections for leaks.
  • Dismantles malfunctioning systems and test components, using electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic testing equipment.
  • Adjusts or replaces worn or defective mechanisms and parts and reassemble repaired systems.
  • Brazes or solders parts to repair defective joints and leaks.
  • Performs mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming.
  • Installs expansion and control valves, using acetylene torchers and wrenches.
  • Installs wiring to connect components to an electric power source.
  • Keeps record of repairs and replacements made and causes of malfunctions.
  • Initiates purchase orders for parts.
