POSITION SUMMARY: The Galveston Bay Refinery is seeking candidates for the position of Inspector for its location in Texas City, Texas. The position will be primarily responsible for development of equipment inspection plans for turnaround and on-stream inspections, analysis of inspection data, reporting plant-wide inspection program status and coordination of inspection work with turnaround planning group prior to, and during shutdowns. The position will also be responsible for the inspection of various types of fixed equipment including tanks, structural steel, heaters, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers and piping. The inspector will document and report findings and develop recommendations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required and completed API 510 and API 570 certifications.
  • Two (2) years or more of inspection experience in fixed equipment, reliability, and maintenance required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RBI and knowledge of refinery damage mechanisms is preferred.
  • Be able to prepare concise technical reports of findings from inspection in order to inform asset owners of the condition of fixed equipment is preferred.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office products and have the ability to use IDMS programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes inspection plans/life cycle management for refining equipment based on service, design, condition, jurisdictional requirements, temporary repairs and equipment replacements, Turnaround (TAR) dates, and inspection history.
  • Prioritizes and plans work within the respective assigned area team.
  • Documents inspection records, findings, and recommendations in Marathon’s Inspection Data Management System (IDMS).
  • Completes all required documentation and interprets and applies industry and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practice (RAGAGEP) codes and specifications.
  • Develops, revises, and maintains comprehensive inspection procedures, applicable guidelines, and work instructions.
  • Reviews and applies Management of Change (MOC) requirements and ensures all Process Safety Management (PSM) elements are implemented.
  • Generates inspection requirements for projects within assigned units or areas and coordinates inspection requirements for larger-scale projects in collaboration with Operations, Engineering and Maintenance, and Reliability departments.
  • Coordinates services of contract inspectors/non-destructive examination technicians.
  • Understands critical process variables that affect equipment reliability, identifies gaps, and leads gap closure effort.
  • Generates and provides repair/upgrade/modification recommendations based on findings, options, and risk assessments in conjunction with management, Operations, and Maintenance.
  • Provides oversight for and facilitates quality assurance program by auditing site’s work in areas such as, but not limited to: DOT covered equipment, non-destructive examination (NDE), visual inspection, data lifecycle analysis of IDMS output, PMI, welding procedures, heat treatment, QA/QC required for projects, and equipment replacement.
  • May lead and drive continuous improvement in inspection-related programs as assigned.
