About The Position

Under the direction of the Vice President of Ambulatory Services works with University of Florida Jacksonville Physicians and UF Health Jacksonville locations to ensure the quality and comprehensive delivery of coordinated ambulatory referral services in a customer and results oriented manner. Responsible for the planning, developing, implementing and evaluating Referral Coordinator training and activities. Develops and provides resources and tools to ensure proper referral completion. Also responsible to oversee and monitor the day-to-day execution of referral transactions according to specific requirements for the primary and specialty care offices. This position will ensure that the services reflect the philosophy and standards of the providers and organization as liaison between healthcare providers, Ambulatory Services, Managed care and all internal and external referral sources.

Requirements

  • 5 years-Processing and/or managing referrals required in an applicable ambulatory health care facility which includes working knowledge of billing and/or reimbursement, management of non-clinical staff and working with physicians, demonstrating management and leadership expertise - required
  • 3 years- Experience managing and leading the referrals process in an ambulatory healthcare setting- required
  • Bachelors Business Administration, Allied Health, Health Care Management-required or
  • 5-8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree will be considered.
  • Travel Required up to 25%

Responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees the assigned area through effective leadership and management of customer service, quality care, and fiscal management. Supports and promotes a high level of customer service in the organizational referral process in regard to patients, staff, interdepartmental, physicians and community healthcare provider contact.
  • Develops and implements operational strategies and activities to ensure the provision of outstanding customer service while adhering to regulatory and company guidelines and requirements ensuring efficiency and economy.
  • Participates in the development of referral strategic plans, goals, and objectives, ensuring alignment with those of the company.
  • Ensures a strong and robust communications process between all managers and staff within the area and across the division as needed by leading communications sessions and meetings with managers and ensuring the appropriate dissemination of communications to support staff.
  • Plans, develops and implements referral workflow processes for new and/or existing departments, identifies challenges and implements changes, as needed. Develops, implements and maintains referral policies and procedures. Remains current on payer requirements and Managed Care Matrix utilizing the various on-line resources. Assists Managed Care leaders with the implementation and communication of actions required due to payor plan changes.
  • Works closely with the IT Department to address challenges, implement system changes and approve updates for the Referral system.
  • Leads, implements and maintains quality improvement programs and initiatives, proactively implements approved action plans to resolve problem areas, actively participates in goal setting for the practice and coordinates the efforts to meet and monitor the goals.
  • Works closely with Physician leaders to ensure referral goals are met in an efficient and effective manner. Works with Medical Directors and Providers to ensure a clear Understanding of referral orders and processes. Prepares, presents and maintains referral reporting statistics.
