About The Position

The Rectal Cancer Program (RCP) Coordinator for the Cancer Institute at St. Francis Hospital reports to the Cancer Institute Administrator. The RCP is a Registered Nurse who directly supports the Rectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) through coordination of MDT meetings and collection of pertinent patient information for analysis during the MDT meetings. The RCP prioritizes interaction with patients and coordinates the patients’ care with health care providers, regarding appointments, treatments, diagnostic tests, and progress with their treatment plan. The RCP will ensure that patient care plans follow all guidelines established by the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) and monitors program data. Overall, the ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently, with physicians from referring institutions, and the SFH MDT to ensure quality care for SFH rectal cancer patients. This candidate must also have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain balance among multiple competing priorities. The RCP must be able to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.

Requirements

  • Current NYS RN License
  • BLS Certification required
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as an RN required
  • Advanced knowledge in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and the ability to learn new software applications
  • Knowledge of community resources and standards of care, ability to interact with community groups, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • BSN/OCN preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years of current experience as a Registered Nurse in the colorectal specialty area (i.e. colorectal cancer, hereditary colorectal conditions, bowel disorders, stomas) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the MDT meetings (including management of accurate & timely information to enable clinical decision making)
  • Plan and organize the colorectal tumor board activities and prepare case conference and registry reports
  • Register and monitor patients with suspected and confirmed rectal cancer throughout their diagnostic and treatment pathways
  • Oversee that patient care pathways are followed according to guidelines, including time targets for relevant interventions
  • Proactively coordinate patient pathways with health care providers/organizations, oversee that all appointments, diagnostic tests, and treatments are booked within NAPRC time targets
  • Liaison with relevant departments within the facility to assemble all pertinent information for MDT meetings
  • Communicate with referring organizations or providers to capture all relevant patient details for discussion at the MDT meetings
  • Contact patients to obtain information about dates, locations, and results of tests and treatments performed outside of the accredited RCP
  • Collect data for the registration of patients with hereditary colorectal conditions
  • Organize and communicate investigations and appointments for colorectal cancer and familial adenomatous polyposis patients and their families
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and make reasonable recommendations and/or take the necessary action to resolve
  • Handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion
  • Have superior patient customer service skills
  • Perform other related SFH CoC Cancer Program duties as assigned.
