About The Position

The Recreational Therapy Supervisor is responsible for administering and directing the Recreational Therapy (RT) program at the agency. This position develops, plans, and implements all RT programming services. Direct clinical services are provided including assessments, individual and group treatment sessions, treatment planning, crisis intervention, and psychoeducation. This position evaluates and develops recreational therapy programs to meet patients' short term and long-term needs. The Recreational Therapy Supervisor completes RT program audits to ensure that standards of practice of Recreational Therapy are being met.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of human structures, physiology of human structures, mechanics of movement, lifecycle growth and development, psychological functioning, pathology in psychological functioning, cognitive learning and motor learning that contribute to health and human functioning.
  • Knowledge of recreational therapy theory, principles, techniques, and methods as well as their specific implications and applications to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illnesses, with an emphasis on restoring, remediation, or rehabilitating physical and/or mental functioning and independence.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and initiate programs and to supervise and train supportive personnel.
  • Ability to accurately administer a variety of assessment tools and to assess clients current functioning levels, develop and evaluate treatment plan, and evaluate progress.
  • Knowledge of co-occurring disorders and their implications for recreational therapy services.
  • Licensed to practice Recreational Therapy by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure and two years of experience as a Recreational Therapist.

Responsibilities
