About The Position

Larmax Homes is seeking a Recreational Therapist who is compassionate, organized, and confident, leading meaningful engagement for residents with dementia and other cognitive conditions. This role is responsible for planning and facilitating structured and individualized activities that promote quality of life, preserve function, and support emotional well-being in a residential setting. The ideal candidate understands how to meet residents where they are cognitively, can manage groups with varying levels of dementia, and thrives in a structured but dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Experience working with individuals with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or other cognitive impairments
  • Strong understanding of dementia communication strategies and behavioral redirection techniques
  • Ability to lead groups with varied cognitive and functional levels simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to adhere to a consistent activity schedule
  • Self-starter who can work independently without constant supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional communication

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, or related field
  • Have the ability to operate at 14 passenger van.
  • CTRS certification required
  • Prior experience in assisted living, memory care, or long-term care settings

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead daily recreational and therapeutic activities aligned with residents’ cognitive and physical abilities
  • Facilitate diverse group sessions that accommodate varying stages of dementia and cognitive impairment
  • Modify activities in real time based on resident response, engagement, and behavioral cues
  • Develop and maintain a monthly activity calendar in collaboration with leadership
  • Ensure activities adhere to scheduled times and documented care plans
  • Maintain organized activity supplies and equipment
  • Document participation and relevant observations in accordance with facility policies
  • Collaborate with nursing, care staff, hospice, and families to support resident-centered engagement
  • Promote a calm, structured, and respectful environment during all group and individual sessions
  • Be able to communicate effectively with potential and current families.
  • Facilitate company outings and special events for residents.
