About The Position

Recreation Therapist is professional work in developing and implementing therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Recreation Therapists are responsible for planning and organizing recreational programs designed to meet the rehabilitative and therapeutic needs of patients. Emphasis of the work is on leading and instructing both individual and group recreational activities of a physical, social and cultural nature. Related responsibilities include serving as a member of therapeutic teams with other professional personnel; maintaining various community contacts; developing expanded recreational programs and serving on hospital, or community committees. Supervision is received from a professional or administrative superior who reviews work for quality and effectiveness of results.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation or a related field and completion of a required internship program are required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • FL-BLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Music Therapy or a related field and completion of a required internship program
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • Board certification in Recreational Therapy (CTRS) or Occupational Therapy (OTR/L), or Music Therapy (MT-BC)
  • Experience working with behavioral health patients preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and instructs patients in individual and group music activities commensurate with their needs, interest, age and culture.
  • Completes assessment procedures for referred patients.
  • Develops and implements appropriate treatment plans and therapeutic goals.
  • Conduct patient treatment daily as scheduled, reports changes or cancellations to unit staff and patients as needed.
  • Maintain adequate records of patients seen and notes relative information on the patient's medical records.
  • Collaborates with other team members relative to patient treatment and progress in music therapy groups.
  • Contributes to the education of student interns; participates in staff in-service program.
  • Maintains current inventory of instruments, music, etc. and requests new supplies when necessary.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performs others duties as required.
  • Performs additional advanced job duties, as outlined in the Rehab Clinical Ladder, which must be pre-approved and determined by the Rehab Committee.
