About The Position

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the development of a multicultural and multi‑sensory recreational program, including Special Physical Education, Art, Music, and other therapeutic or leisure activities. Collaborate with supervisors and childcare workers to implement planned recreational activities for all residents, both on‑grounds and off‑grounds. Complete all required documentation for recreation activities on a daily basis, as well as summaries and reports for weekly Family Team Conferences. Assist with the planning and implementation of campus celebrations and special events. Ensure that all rules, regulations, and safety procedures are followed and enforced at all times. Work directly with residents after school, on weekends, and during school vacations, with scheduling flexibility based on the needs of the RTC. Perform additional duties as assigned to support program operations. QUALIFICATIONS Associate’s degree in education, Special Education, Recreation, Physical Education, or Creative Arts Therapies Experience working with individuals with MR/DD populations Strong spelling, grammar, and written communication skills Computer literate with the ability to complete electronic documentation Valid and clean New York State Driver’s License RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS Employees must demonstrate the ability to: Work effectively as a team player Exhibit cultural sensitivity and respect toward the diverse backgrounds of staff and residents Maintain a strong belief in individuals’ capacity for growth and change, fostering respectful partnerships with residents and their families Establish appropriate professional boundaries, set limits, and intervene effectively while maintaining a helping role WORKING CONDITIONS 15 hours per week, Permanent schedule of four (4) days per week, 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM 12 hours weekend, Saturday and Sunday 11 AM - 5 PM Availability required for special trips, events, and activities SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY Carry out assignments deemed appropriate and necessary to support the overall functioning of the department.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in education, Special Education, Recreation, Physical Education, or Creative Arts Therapies
  • Experience working with individuals with MR/DD populations
  • Strong spelling, grammar, and written communication skills
  • Computer literate with the ability to complete electronic documentation
  • Valid and clean New York State Driver’s License
