About The Position

Is Responsible to ensure the mission of The Arc NEPA by offering inclusive, social recreation opportunities for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Under the administrative supervision of the Manager of Recreation Services, the position is responsible for the daily planning, participation and implementation of recreation and leisure opportunities for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the organization's service area. Such opportunities shall aid in the development of leisure skills appropriate to age and individual interest, consistent with The Arc ' s Mission. The position also serves as an Assistant of The Arc 's Summer Camps and performs related responsibilities.

Requirements

  • A minimum age of 18 is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

  • be able to communicate effectively with staff, management, external agency personnel, individuals served and their families.
  • Individual must be able to meet established physical requirements of job (i.e. providing ambulatory assistance, performing restraint techniques, lifting and carrying 50 pounds, performing any necessary CPR/First Aid, working outdoors, participation in aquatic activities, etc.).
  • An Associate 's Degree in Human Services or related field and one year experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities; or, A high school diploma/GED and three years' experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Adult Recreation Is responsible to insure the mission of The Arc of NEPA by developing opportunities for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to experience a variety of leisure activities.
  • Assist in planning and participate in recreational programs, activities, and special events that meet the individual needs, wants, and interests expressed by Stakeholders.
  • Assist with conducting Quarterly Advisory Meeting.
  • Develop and offer integrated community events.
  • Review recommendations with the Manager of Recreation Services.
  • Together with Departmental staff, prepare and distribute Arc Recreation Schedules/ Announcements in a t imely fashion.
  • Document reservations, record payments, maintain current mailing lists and complete contact information.
  • Assist in ensuring the necessary preparations and accommodations for Arc Recreation program activities are implemented, including receiving program supply requests, requisitioning and/or obtaining necessary supplies, staffing, etc.
  • In conjunction with The Arc Fiscal Office, plan for, collect, and submit to Arc Fiscal Office money required for appropriate Arc Recreation services. This includes purchase orders/supply requisitions, petty cash, and check requests. Ensure accountability of all monies.
  • In conjunction with the Manager of Recreation Services , contribute to the on-going evaluation of Arc sponsored Recreational programs and services in order to ensure optimal stakeholder's satisfaction through such methods as stakeholder's input, review of attendance records, staff meetings, quality/satisfaction surveys.
  • Provide stakeholders, families/guardians, staff, provider agencies, schools, etc. with information regarding activities, including schedule changes, cancellations, participant concerns, etc.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining necessary records for program stakeholders including attendance, medications, incident reports, stakeholder's application forms, etc.
  • Assist with planning and organizing transportation schedules as necessary.
  • Assist with Recruitment and orientation of new employees.
  • In conjunction with Human Resources, interview qualified applicants and make recommendations for hire.
  • Identify appropriate training programs for self as well as Departmental staff and ensure that training needs are met.
  • Summer Camp Plan, Coordinate, Supervise and Participate in the daily activities of Arc Summer Camp Program.
  • Review recommendations with the Manager of Recreation Services .
  • Develop a camp schedule of activities which are meaningful and provide opportunities to promote individual leisure skill development.
  • Ensure that pre-planned activities are confirmed and Prepare alternate activity plans as necessary.
  • Act as liaison between the program and camper ' s parents, guardians, or caretakers; communicate information regarding camp activities, individual campers concerns, etc.
  • Assist with Coordination of transportation services for campers to and from camp and wherever needed.
  • In conjunction with Director of Operations and the Human Resources Department, assist in the staffing of Arc Summer Camps and the Recreation Department.
  • Conduct orientation and training for camp staff.
  • Supervise camp staff with regard to the implementation of their daily responsibilities by providing leadership and acting as a facilitator for camp staff to ensure that services offer a worthwhile experience for campers.
  • Conduct weekly camp staff meetings.
  • Maintain documentation and records including medication, attendance, incident reports, parental/guardian communication, transportation, staff time sheets, etc.
  • Follow procedures pertaining to incident management and communicating relevant information in a thorough, prompt and accurate manner.
  • Serve as a Driver when needed for a program's transportation and abide by agency vehicle policies.
  • Assist with supervision and direction to students, trainees, and volunteers.
  • Assist in conducting meetings with Recreation staff, provider agencies, caretakers, direct service Staff etc. as required.
  • Assist with Scheduling, attending and participating in program staff meetings and/or required in/out- service training.
