About The Position

Oversee (plan, supervise, budget, market, and evaluate) multiple programs, including but not limited to special events and outdoor recreation. During emergency conditions, subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned. Greet and assist visitors and direct to appropriate area or person. Develop, implement, and promote a variety of recreation programs, high profile community-wide events and activities. Establish rules and procedures for efficient and effective operation of facilities and programs. Monitor program compliance with local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations related to recreation related services. Recruit, train and evaluate part-time, seasonal, volunteer and contract staff; recommend selection of staff; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement disciplinary procedures. Ensure programs are staffed accordingly. Conduct staff meetings, required training, in-service training/team building sessions for staff. Assist with budget preparation, monitoring of expenses and preparation of purchase orders. Check out/in equipment; monitor condition of equipment inventory and determine if replacement is needed. Assist in facility preparation for activities by ensuring set-up for programs and activities/events are staffed accordingly. Ensure facilities are maintained and operated properly Prepare field/WRC/court use/pool use reports and schedules as well as revenue/expense reports. Develop and monitor an ongoing program of accident prevention and general safety. Prepare incident, accident and damage reports. Maintain file of user contracts and programs, insurance verification, and permits. Prepare flyers, brochures, news releases and other promotional material; promote department programs and services to residents in person and by phone. Answer phones; answer routine questions or direct call to appropriate staff member; take message as needed. Solicit monetary and in-kind sponsorships as needed. Evaluate facility operations; administer operating policies and procedures, recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities; Turn in weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports on attendance, revenue, usage, marketing effectiveness/cost and cost recovery. Conduct surveys of program participants; compile and analyze data; recommend revisions or additions to programs as appropriate. Monitor and evaluate attendance, revenue, and training. Develop schedules and plan activities for instructional program and special events. Develop and implement review generating activities and events to supplement program operation. Coordinate registration for all activities; collect and record registration forms. Assist with recreation programs, events and special projects as required. Employee may be required to work special events on nights, weekends or holidays. Perform other duties as assigned. Manage and coordinator personally or through employees and independent contractors, the following programs: Recreation Center, Athletic Field, Summer Camp, etc. Monitor activities at the Recreation Center, athletic fields. Collect fees for park, recreation, including Northshore Rental Facility. Directly supervises various contract instructors and staff. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Work performed by those being supervised is semi-complex.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university in Parks and Recreation Management or related field.
  • One (1) year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a Texas driver’s license within the first ninety (90) days of employment and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
  • Proficiency in MS Office required.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening, pass background check, and eligible status on Motor Vehicle Report.
