Walton Family Whole Health & Fitness, managed by HealthFitness, has an exciting opportunity for a Recreation Manager at our Walmart client site in Bentonville, AR. You’ll help lead engaging recreational programs, support day‑to-day operations, and energize a team of recreation professionals—ensuring every class, event, league, and tournament creates an inclusive, welcoming environment where members feel connected and motivated to stay active. Responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and delivery of diverse recreational programs. Focuses on creating inclusive, high-energy environments that encourage physical activity and social connection among members by assisting in the leadership of the recreation team, sports instructors, and overseeing program implementation. Ensures every program, lesson, event, league, and tournament fosters a community-centric approach to well-being and active living.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related discipline or the equivalent combination of education, experience, and current certifications.
  • 2+ years’ experience working in the field. Experience should include program management, staff management (recreation specialists and instructors) and event management experience.
  • Current Adult CPR/AED/First Aid certifications from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Institute, or American Safety & Health Institute required by start date. (Note: certification must have an in-person component and not 100% online/OSHA compliant).
  • Strong leadership, team management, interpersonal and customer service skills including the ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands, meet deadlines, and collaborate with all business units.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook; and working knowledge of the member management system, databases, and tools.
  • Applicants must meet hiring requirements including but not limited to pre-employment drug test.

  • NRPA (The National Recreation and Park Association) Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP); NIRSA Affiliation (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association).

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Recreation Director regarding the recruitment of recreation instructor staff and the assigning of work.
  • Works with the Recreation Director to ensure all recreation instructor staff is properly trained and hold appropriate certifications necessary for safe and effective recreation program delivery; provides continuous feedback to all recreation instructor staff to ensure quality of all programs and services.
  • Supports the Business Operations Director and Recreation Director with formal performance appraisals and formal corrective action processes when warranted.
  • Works in tandem with the Recreation Director to lead regular staff meetings to ensure associates are informed about HealthFitness and Walmart business events.
  • Submit employment forms, payroll records, and billing worksheets accurately and according to contract provisions and HealthFitness policies.
  • Provides input to the GM regarding the development and implementation of recreation programming for the yearly strategic business plan.
  • Tracks recreation participant, program usage data, and statistical outcomes reporting for league play and/or special events.
  • Works with the Recreation Director regarding the implementation of recreation programs and special events; supports the coordination of recreation marketing and communications to maximize program engagement.
  • Supports the management of all recreation related program activities in accordance with HealthFitness operational, quality, safety, and service standards.
  • Maintains accurate recreation records and ensures confidentiality of data collected during recreation activities in accordance with HealthFitness requirements, including applicable file transfer, processes, collaborating with related suppliers and/or storage.
  • Supports the Recreation Director with the scheduling of programs, classes, events, leagues, and team building.
  • Supports the Recreation Director with coordination of resources (e.g., equipment, staff scheduling, and indoor/outdoor areas).
  • Supports the Recreation Director in the coordination with community organizations regarding recreational based events in the community (e.g., 5K Runs, Walmart Games, Internships).
  • Other duties as needed/assigned.
