About The Position

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor assists in planning and supervision of the recreational program for the facility. Safety-Sensitive Position: Yes (as defined under Oklahoma Statute Title 63 § 427.8) All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. Requirements

  • Knowledge of personal computers; principles and practices of sociology applicable to juvenile casework; county and state regulations pertaining to juvenile care; recreational and leisure programs; and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Skill in recognizing underlying causes of social problems; in counseling an individual concerning personal and family problems; and in eliciting pertinent personal information.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others; to express facts and opinions clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; to establish effective interpersonal relationships; to gain respect and cooperation of others; to keep alert and vigilant; to handle stressful situations; supervise a recreation program and communicate clearly with participants and staff. and to create a constructive atmosphere for crisis problem-solving.
  • Sixty (60) credit hours of college coursework in Recreational Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education or a related field and one year of experience in Recreation, correction, or related experience is required; or acceptable related recreation experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid & CPR Certifications (training provided by Detention Home)
  • Ability to receive certification in Handle with Care (training provided by Detention Home)
  • Ability to receive Use of Force Certification (training provided by Detention Home)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age- defined by Oklahoma Administrative Code § 377:3-13-43
  • The employee must respond and react to flight and fight encounters with detained residents.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Employees are required to understand and comply with these conditions of continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise daily recreational and leisure activities, to include but not limited to, athletic games, sporting matches, tournaments, cultural activities craft shop or other hobby programs for inmates/residents.
  • Assist in the supervision of the overall recreational program for the facility, to include supervising residents in support of the facility plan.
  • Maintain and conduct physical inventories of supplies, tools and equipment to avoid waste, loss and damage, for the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Coaches and instructs indoor and outdoor events or activities.
  • Order replacement items in a timely manner, within the guidelines of facility purchasing procedures.
  • Arrange for the proper equipment and facilities to be available in designated areas of the facility as required.
  • Maintain and monitor the safety and sanitation of recreational areas.
  • Prepare reports, including safety and accident reports, statistical reports, and other documents as required by the Recreation Supervisor; ensures appropriate action is taken regards of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
