About The Position

The City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department is looking for an enthusiastic Recreation Coordinator – Fitness & Adult Programs to lead the daily fitness operations of our brand-new Community Recreation Center. This position oversees hiring, training, and supervising group fitness instructors and program staff while ensuring a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for everyone. The coordinator will plan and manage fitness programs and other adult programs that engage the community and promote health and wellbeing. This is an exciting time to join our team as we prepare for the opening of the new CRC. The CRC features a three-lane indoor track, over 7,000 square feet of fitness space with a variety of cardio, weight, and circuit training equipment, an outdoor artificial turf area with additional strength and functional training equipment, and three group fitness rooms. We’re looking for a motivated leader who’s passionate about building strong teams, fostering learning, and creating great experiences for our community.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in the coordination or implementation of recreational programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in recreation administration, leisure studies or a related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid CPR/First Aid certificate.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification is desirable.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, AFFA, ISSA, ACE or similar certification.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of assigned staff.
  • Participate in the selection of assigned staff; provide or coordinate staff training.
  • Organize, coordinate, implement and supervise the day-to-day operations of assigned recreational programs and activities.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing recreation programs.
  • Schedule usage of recreational facilities for activities.
