About DDI: For 65 years, DDI (Developmental Disabilities Institute) has been a leading agency providing a full spectrum of care for over 1,600 children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Recreation Assistant will lend support with recreational services to Adult Day Services.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma
  • Willingness to travel to multiple sites
  • Ability to read, understand and follow safety guidelines
  • Must be able to modify the area to secure the safety of the adults i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to able to lift , bend, twist, carry a minimum of 35 lbs
  • Must be able to run after an individual up to 500 feet
  • Must be able to run to a program in need up to 500 feet
  • Must be able to kneel, twist and bend
  • Must be able to perform all physical SCIP techniques

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to the Recreation Therapist/Recreation Therapy Coordinator in ensuring that all recreational activities are functional and age appropriate
  • Assist the Recreation Therapist in annual evaluations of assigned individuals with respect to leisure/recreation skills and peer socialization
  • Assist the Recreation Therapist to complete summaries of participant functioning through review of established programs noting all modifications and directions to be taken in unison with the Comprehensive Functional Assessment as needed.
  • Assist the program in maintenance and replacement of all motorized/recreational equipment as directed by the Recreation Therapy Coordinator
  • In partnership with the Recreation Therapist review all data for individual’s recreational program. Making individual specific changes when necessary. Documentation required on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor program interventions through direct observations and consultation with staff implementing procedure.
  • Responsible to run recreation/leisure groups for all day habilitation programs according to schedule established by the Recreation Therapy Coordinator.
  • Responsible to help run building wide recreation groups/events as specified by the Recreation Therapy Coordinator.
  • Assist with community-based programming (Special Olympics, provide community resources and identify appropriate group trips)
  • Assist to model all recreational activities for staff and provide ongoing assessment and feedback
  • Active and professional participation in select review meetings for assigned participants as an integral member of the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Active participation in weekly staff meetings and monthly department meetings
