About The Position

The Department of State's Reception and Placement program provides assistance for refugees to settle in the United States. It supplies resettlement agencies a one-time sum per refugee to assist with meeting expenses during a refugee's first three months in the United States. The Reception and Placement Case Manager is responsible for orchestrating and managing essential services for refugees newly arrived in the Austin, TX area. This includes managing logistics prior to their arrival, executing resettlement services as mandated by the Cooperative Agreement, and ensuring meticulous record-keeping in client case files and logs. The role also involves substantial external communication, requiring the associate to liaise effectively with clients, volunteers, other social service agencies, and the community at large.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with refugee or migrant populations.
  • Basic understanding of resettlement best practices, quality assurance, or compliance.
  • Understanding of fundamental client management techniques including determining eligibility, assessing needs, identifying resources, making referrals, and conducting follow-ups.
  • English fluency required.
  • Driver’s License with clear record.
  • Must have daily use of a vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, human services, or social service fields preferred.
  • Fluency in one of the following languages: Dari, Pashto, Spanish, Swahili, or French.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate housing, arrange airport pickup, and offer comprehensive case management services including home visits and individualized service plans.
  • Provide interpretation services and arrange transportation to essential appointments such as medical check-ups and language classes.
  • Assist clients in accessing a variety of social services, such as public benefits, schooling, and employment services.
  • Make referrals to community service providers for additional support in areas such as counseling and immigration legal services.
  • Communicate externally with clients, volunteers, U.S. ties, and social service agency representatives.
  • Provide cultural orientation and assistance in navigating the local community.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, services provided, and outcomes achieved.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports as needed.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service by placing the child, family, Veteran or client first.
