NYPA is excited to announce an opportunity for a full-time energy industry professional to join our Generation Resource Management (GRM) Cohort within the Energy Resource Management (ERM) Department. This position offers a unique professional development experience designed for early-career professionals with a minimum of two years of relevant experience or successfully completed energy/utility educational programs who are seeking to build advanced expertise in energy trading, fuel management, and power/gas market analytics. The GRM Cohort includes a structured, one-year skill development plan that provides comprehensive exposure to NYPA's GRM functions. Participants will complete four targeted learning modules-Energy Trading Analytics, Fuel Analytics, Fuel Supply, and Real-Time Trading-each designed to build technical proficiency, analytical capability, and operational understanding through a combination of job shadowing, practical exercises, and formal training courses. Module 1: Energy Trading Analytics: Learn about NYISO/NYPA reporting requirements, energy/capacity transaction submissions, Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and TCC auctions, Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), and generation bidding strategies. Module 2: Fuel Analytics: Develop skills in data analysis, predictive modeling, and performance measurement to optimize fuel usage and cost management. Become proficient in several software platforms including Commodity/Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM), DTN and S&P Platts. Module 3: Fuel Supply: Gain insight into fuel procurement strategies, market fundamentals, logistics, and risk management techniques to optimize NYPA's fuel supply portfolio. Module 4: Real-Time Trading: Learn NYISO real-time market operations, generation bidding procedures, and compliance requirements while also gaining exposure to several software platforms including but not limited to NYISO MIS, NYISO OMS, PowerOptix, ERM Energy Trading Portal, Yes Energy, and Enverus. The cohort includes cross-departmental training opportunities, site visits, and professional development sessions to foster a comprehensive understanding of NYPA's mission and operations. This is a permanent, full-time position, not an internship. Upon successful completion of the GRM Cohort, participants will have the opportunity to be placed in area of immediate need or where GRM management feels support is required in an area such as power trading, analytics, or fuel supply. Graduates of the cohort will be well-prepared to engage in the power and natural gas markets, which includes the capability to manage generator assets using NYISO software platforms covering fuel source, energy, ancillary services and capacity.
