About The Position

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking a Real Property Coordinator (IF&W Senior Resource Biologist) to work as part of the Land Acquisition Program. The mission of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IF&W) is to preserve, protect, and enhance the inland fisheries and wildlife resources of the state as well as to enable and promote the safe enjoyment of Maine’s outdoors. To achieve this mandate, the Department acquires land for the management and protection of fish and wildlife habitats and to support and improve opportunities for public access. The Real Property Coordinator will help advance IF&W’s land acquisition and management goals by coordinating IF&W‘s property monitoring and reporting responsibilities. This position will work closely with IF&W’s Wildlife Management Section and Water Access Program to establish procedures and ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements. This position will also oversee the resolution of issues identified during monitoring efforts through landowner communication, title review, legal documentation, boundary surveys, and other efforts. Work will be conducted both in the office and in the field as needed. The position is located within the Habitat Conservation Section and is based in IF&Ws Augusta office.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Fisheries or Wildlife Management, or related field -AND- two (2) years of progressively responsible related laboratory or field research and/or management experience.
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferences will be given to candidates with a background in land acquisition or real estate law and/or knowledge of land acquisition and management policies and procedures
  • Experience working in the field and the ability to conduct property monitoring in diverse weather conditions and over rough terrain
  • Data management experience including familiarity with Microsoft Access and GIS (e.g. ESRI) products and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the monitoring of IF&W fee and easement lands
  • Completing real property grant reporting requirements to USFWS or other funders
  • Working with the Wildlife Management Section and Water Access Program to develop property monitoring procedures and conduct site visits
  • Resolving issues identified during monitoring efforts through landowner communication, title review, legal documentation, and coordination of survey work
  • Managing real property data collection tools and providing staff training
  • Developing procedures for monitoring IF&W-sponsored conservation projects, including communicating with conservation partners and reviewing annual monitoring and management plans for grant compliance
  • Reviewing requests for rights-of-way easements, utilities installations, etc.
  • Using Microsoft Access and GIS tools for data management, analysis, and reporting
  • Engaging with a variety of stakeholders and service providers
  • Assisting with other Land Acquisition Program responsibilities including property acquisition and habitat grant coordination
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Land Acquisition Program Supervisor, Habitat Section Supervisor, Division Director, or Commissioner’s Office.
