About The Position

The Real Estate Director leads the strategic planning, acquisition, development, and management of J. Benton’s corporate real estate and workforce housing portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring the availability of high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective housing, office, warehouse, and operational facilities that support company growth and project delivery. The Real Estate Director serves as a key advisor to executive leadership on portfolio strategy, capital deployment, risk management, and long-term asset planning. This position is preferably based in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with partial remote flexibility considered.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience managing corporate or institutional real estate portfolios.
  • Demonstrated experience in acquisitions, leasing, dispositions, and portfolio strategy.
  • Experience managing portfolios of comparable scale and complexity.
  • Strong financial management, budgeting, and reporting expertise.
  • Proven track record of working with lenders, advisors, legal counsel, and government agencies

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute long-term real estate and workforce housing strategies aligned with business growth and project needs.
  • Source, evaluate, acquire, lease, and dispose of residential, commercial, and operational properties.
  • Lead due diligence activities including zoning, legal, environmental, financial, and regulatory reviews.
  • Structure and negotiate purchase agreements, leases, financing arrangements, and vendor contracts.
  • Manage portfolio budgets, forecasts, operating statements, and capital plans.
  • Oversee property operations, housing programs, and third-party management partners.
  • Establish governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks for all real estate assets.
  • Monitor market conditions and asset performance to optimize returns and control costs.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination with finance, legal, operations, and project leadership.
  • Build and manage high-performing internal and external real estate support teams.
