RIVERDALE HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY Reading Support Paraeducator 5.75 paid hrs/day 8:30 AM - 2:45 PM $17.78/hour after 60-day probationary period Position may include recess & cafeteria supervision TITLE: Reading Support Paraeducator DATE: January 2026 QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma required; post-secondary education in education or a related field preferred and/or experience working with children in instructional settings, particularly in literacy or reading support. REPORTS TO: Building Principal(evaluator) and Reading Specialist(s) (para is directed by reading specialist) SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, part-time hours based on student need (hours will fall between 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) DUTY ASSIGNMENT: Assigned to one building; schedule and student assignments based on reading intervention needs. JOB DUTIES Frequent collaboration with reading specialists and classroom teachers to discuss student progress, instructional strategies, and literacy needs (e.g., supporting small-group reading instruction, participating in planning conversations, and reviewing student progress). Provides instructional support to students receiving reading intervention, under the direction of the reading specialist, to reinforce targeted literacy skills. Works with students individually or in small groups to practice and reinforce reading skills such as phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Assists with the preparation and organization of reading intervention materials and resources. Supports implementation of student accommodations and instructional plans as directed by the reading specialist or classroom teacher. Provides positive encouragement, emotional support, and a welcoming, supportive learning environment for students. Adapts instructional activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting literacy objectives. Monitors student engagement and behavior during reading intervention sessions and provides feedback to the supervising teacher. Supervises students during transitions, intervention blocks, or other assigned times as directed by the reading specialist or building administrator. Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and non-judgmental views of children and families served. Participates in building-level meetings, reading support team meetings, and district paraprofessional training as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Salary and work year assigned according to the Letter of Assignment. EVALUATION Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building-level administrator. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Medium Work – lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 20–50 lbs. occasionally, 10–25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Additional physical demands may be required based on student needs. Stooping and kneeling occasionally. Reaching, talking, and hearing frequently. Must be able to remain mobile throughout the workday. Works in standard office and school building environments.
