About The Position

The Reading Support Class Tutor will provide supplemental daily small-group instruction to middle school (6-8) students who are identified as needing additional support in reading comprehension. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks: Provides literacy instruction and support to secondary students in collaboration with classroom teachers and reading specialist Teaches fundamental reading skills to small groups of students Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the needs of the assigned group utilizing district provided resources Participates in monthly professional development and training focusing on literacy instruction and best practices Collaborates with the reading specialist in planning for the instructional needs of the students Monitors and documents academic progress of the assigned students Maintain appropriate records Communicates with classroom teacher and reading specialist to discuss student progress and provide feedback Follow an instructional schedule developed by school personnel working 5 hours a day Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards encountered in a school Work is performed in a classroom and involves no unusual demands

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain the certification requirements as established by the Virginia Department of Education (Title IX Training, Mandated Reporting Training and Suicide Prevention Training)
  • Must possess a high school diploma
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community.
