About The Position

The Reading Interventionist works with kindergarten through eighth grade students in small groups to improve skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students are selected to work with literacy interventionist because they are below grade level in literacy. Candidate must enjoy being a team player and providing excellent care and service to a diverse population. The candidate should have the ability to interact with staff, families and students in a manner that demonstrates respect and dignity, and the ability to solve problems in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education OR enrolled in a teacher education undergraduate program OR two years of full-time post-secondary study
  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification (preferred)
  • Knowledge or experience in best practice literacy concepts
  • Candidate must have current (within 3 years) PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, Act 168 Clearance (if applicable), and Mandated Reporter Training Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Actively supervise children at all times/maintain ratio at all times when possible
  • Understand and be able to implement school expectations and PBIS programming
  • Participate in events that promote the partnership between Contractor and the School District of the City of York
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Contractor
  • Have knowledge of educational components or willingness to learn and implement best practices in literacy instruction
  • Actively participate in data cycles with MTSS Specialist
  • Actively participate in professional development in best practices in literacy
  • Collaborate weekly with teachers on unit topics and current, grade level eligible content
  • Instruct small group literacy lessons with students
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain accurate records of student attendance and progress using screening (IXL, Acadience, etc.) and formative assessments
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with teachers and staff
  • Communicate instructional concerns and child concerns with the teacher who will contact supervisors/coaches if needed
  • Complete Behavior Tracking Forms on students as needed
  • Keep accurate records for all student contacts
  • Provide support for the emotional needs of students in a manner that demonstrates cultural relevance, respect, and dignity
