About The Position

The Reading Interventionist for Middle School plays a critical role in supporting students who struggle with reading by providing targeted, evidence-based instruction designed to improve literacy skills. This position focuses on assessing individual student needs, developing personalized intervention plans, and delivering specialized reading instruction to help students achieve grade-level proficiency. The interventionist collaborates closely with classroom teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed. Ultimately, the Reading Interventionist contributes to closing achievement gaps and promoting long-term academic success for middle school students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification or licensure appropriate for middle school education in the United States.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reading development, assessment tools, and intervention strategies.
  • Experience working with middle school students in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Special Education, or a related discipline.
  • Certification as a Reading Specialist or equivalent credential.
  • Experience with Response to Intervention (RTI) frameworks and data-driven instruction.
  • Familiarity with diverse learning needs, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and literacy software to support instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students' reading strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement individualized reading intervention plans based on assessment data and best practices.
  • Provide small group and one-on-one instruction tailored to students' specific literacy needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate intervention strategies and support general education curriculum.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instructional approaches to maximize effectiveness.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies to support reading development at home.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with research-based reading interventions and instructional techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records of student assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
