GENERAL SUMMARY The In-Grade Reactor Operator operates and monitors all plant equipment outside the main Control Room to ensure safe, efficient plant operation. The In-Grade Reactor Operator works cooperatively with all plant service organizations for the effective performance of duties that interface with plant operations.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of nuclear power plant experience in operations or other technical field (i.e. engineering, maintenance, chemistry, health physics); OR an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university and four years of nuclear power plant experience in operations or other technical field; OR five years of nuclear navy experience which includes nuclear prototype school completion; OR a high school diploma, or GED, and six years of experience in a technical field.
  • Within the first 48 months of employment, required to accept scheduling into the next Initial License Class to obtain their Reactor Operation license.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and operates nuclear power plant systems and components and performs functions of an operating nature required for safe, efficient plant operations.
  • Communicates with the Control Room and participates in maintaining a mutual awareness of changing plant conditions and events which affect, or could affect, operation of the plant.
  • Performs procedure writing verification and review, chemical and radiological sampling and analysis, housekeeping, and documentation.
  • Performs nuclear fuel handling, inspections, and core refueling.
  • Functions as a member or leader of the plant Emergency Team, Hazardous Materials Response Team, and Fire Brigade.
  • Works independently on tasks for which qualified.
  • Performs other tasks as required.

  • This is a bargaining unit position and the hourly pay rate is: $62.79
