About The Position

Under general supervision of the Aquatics Operations Supervisor, the Head Lifeguard is responsible for assisting the Pool Manager in supervision of Lifeguard and Slide Attendant staff, ensuring the safety of patrons, and responding to emergencies at Rainbow Falls Waterpark. The Head Lifeguard is hired as a seasonal employee, spanning Memorial Day through Labor Day. Work is performed at a self controlled pace but may vary depending on the demands of the situation at hand.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees
  • 16 year of age or older
  • Ability to pass vision test (with or without corrective eyewear)
  • Must have worked as a Lifeguard at Rainbow Falls Waterpark for one full summer
  • Must possess or be able to successfully complete StarGuard ELITE’s Lifeguard certification
  • Minimum 1 year of lifeguard experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist Pool Manager with supervision and evaluation of Lifeguards, and Slide Attendants.
  • Actively patrol Rainbow Falls Waterpark, observing operations, identifying service and safety opportunities for improvement, and assisting staff during shifts
  • Assist Admissions Staff with greeting and organizing visiting groups
  • Ensure patron safety by actively scanning assigned zones of the pool and enforcing rules
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies and assist patrons in distress as outlined by the Emergency Action Plan
  • Attend 4 hours of in-service training per month to maintain certification requirements and practice all CPR, First Aid, and lifeguarding skills
  • Inspect lifeguard equipment at the start of each shift to ensure it is in good working order
  • Lead staff in routine cleaning/maintenance throughout the duration of each shift
  • Bring and use proper sun protection on every shift that includes outdoor rotation
  • Help set up for programs and special events
  • Go beyond the expected to provide exemplary customer service to patrons, including sharing information about the pool rules, EGPD programs, facilities, and events, and answering questions
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules
  • Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks
  • Utilize scheduling software to communicate monthly availability and view scheduled shifts
  • Follow all Federal and State Labor Laws
  • Maintain a commitment to the operation of a safe and effective aquatic environment.
  • Responsible for other duties as deemed appropriate by the Pool Manger, Aquatics Supervisors, or Aquatics Manager
