About The Position

HII Mission Technologies is seeking a Range Training Officer (RTO) to support daily mission execution, airspace coordination, and training operations for the United States Air Force Weapons School (USAFWS) at Nellis AFB. This role is ideal for candidates with backgrounds in Air Traffic Control, Command & Control (C2), Mission Operations, Air Battle Management, Weapons Direction, Airfield Operations, or similar airspace, range, and mission-coordination environments. RTOs help ensure safe, efficient, and realistic mission flow during live-fly and simulated training events, enabling the Weapons School to train and graduate the Air Force’s next generation of Weapons Officers.

Requirements

  • 3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 1 year relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • An understanding of realistic targeting ranges and capabilities for all Surface to Air Missiles(SAM) in order to properly execute desired learning objectives
  • Experience using proper Radio to Talk (RT) procedures to communicate with airborne assets in a fast passed environment.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple moving parts during dynamic mission events.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and decision‑making skills.
  • Background in one or more of the following:
  • – Air Traffic Control (military or FAA)
  • – Command & Control (C2), Mission Operations, or Weapons Direction
  • – Range operations, airspace management, or airfield operations
  • – Air Battle Management or Air Operations Center roles
  • – Similar aviation, C2, or mission‑coordination environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NTTR operations, Nellis AFB training environments, or military airspace management.
  • Familiarity with mission displays or tactical systems such as DIADS, ICADS, RADS, BC3, or Link-16.
  • Experience supporting large-scale training events or exercises (e.g., WSINT, Red Flag, Green Flag).
  • Understanding of air-to-ground or air-to-air mission flow is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and assesses bomb deployment during live training to evaluate accuracy, timing, and overall effectiveness
  • Coordinates Surface to Air Missiles (SAM) systems during training scenarios to simulate real-world air defense conditions
  • Maintain real-time situational awareness of aircraft, airspace, and mission flow during training events.
  • Monitor mission displays and communications systems; assist in deconfliction actions as directed.
  • Coordinate with range control, mission operations, and participating units to support safe and effective airspace utilization.
  • Support execution of live-fly and synthetic missions by tracking timelines, status updates, and dynamic changes.
  • Work with instructors, mission crews, and range personnel to keep live‑fly and simulated events running smoothly.
  • Assist instructors during mission briefs and debriefs by providing timelines, mission data, observations, and procedural inputs.
  • Update training materials, checklists, and mission documentation in coordination with squadron personnel.
  • Support large-force training events, including Weapons School Integration (WSINT), Red Flag, and other NTTR exercises.
  • Configure and operate mission systems such as radios, displays, and air/ground coordination tools.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting for mission systems, displays, comms equipment, and mission support tools.
  • Apply established procedures, Letters of Agreement, and local range/safety guidelines to ensure mission compliance.
  • Assist with schedule coordination, crew time management, and integration of required mission support assets.
