About The Position

The Range Assistant is responsible for the operation, care, and maintenance of range target-throwing equipment, as well as the overall upkeep and cleanliness of shooting facilities. This position works under the direct supervision of on-site Range Instructors and the Director of Shooting Operations. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age to transport members/guests or other passengers.
  • Must be able to pass employment background check and motor vehicle record checks.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license in accordance with the laws of the State of Montana; must be insurable under the company’s auto insurance policy.
  • Must be able to work variable schedule or irregular hours to include last-minute scheduling needs/changes and working split shifts based on needs of the Club operations and scheduled events.
  • Must be able to work overtime, holidays, weekday, weekend, and early morning / evening hours as required.
  • Ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions as needed and to walk on uneven ground.
  • Ability to perform same-day travel on Stock Farm Property and within local geographic region.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of range safety basics, use of target throwing equipment, and general knowledge of shotguns/long guns.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities and to work independently.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to maintain personal hygiene.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in highly fluid and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audience.
  • Ability to work with a team and interact with others in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of Stock Farm Club and member and guest information.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and image of the Stock Farm Club.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior successful employment with the Stock Farm Club in this or a related position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operations of over/under, side-by-side, pump, or semi-automatic shotguns/long guns.

Responsibilities

  • Operates range target throwing equipment.
  • Loads and throws targets for members or guests; provides advice on sighting and targeting techniques and accuracy of shot.
  • Conducts inspection and general preventative maintenance on all target equipment; notifies Director of Shooting Operations of major concerns or needed repairs.
  • Provides verbal instruction to members or guests on how to clear jams, addresses misfires, and similar; requests Range Instructor to assist with physical clearing of jams, misfires, firearm malfunctions.
  • Performs cleanup of shooting site/facilities, ensuring appropriate cleanliness and safe environment.
  • Notifies range staff of need to order inventory (e.g., clay discs) for the target throwing equipment.
  • Maintains general firearms safety awareness when performing duties, to include member/guest safe use of firearms; notifies Range Instructor of any incidents that need to be addressed.
  • Cleans and stores transportation carts.
  • May use Club vehicles to transport supplies, sundries, and similar in support of event operations.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.
