About The Position

The RamCorps Education & Historical Interpretation Technician position is a quarter-time national and community service opportunity focused on supporting the Rock Ledge Ranch education and interpretation programs. Members will engage with Ranch staff, volunteers, and visitors, providing an immersive and engaging educational experience while outfitted in period-appropriate attire. The role requires a minimum of 450 hours of service over a four-month term, from May 2026 to August 2026, with an approximate commitment of 35 hours per week. Service will take place at Rock Ledge Ranch (RLR), a living history landscape in western Colorado Springs, which is owned by the City of Colorado Springs and managed by the nonprofit Living History Association (LHA). The AmeriCorps member is expected to provide direct services, strengthen the community, build organizational capacity, complete administrative tasks, maintain professionalism, and participate in regular check-ins and reviews. The position offers significant training and experience in community engagement, project implementation, leadership, and working with diverse populations, with up to 20% of total hours dedicated to approved training. Supervision and support will be provided by Derek Lowstuter and Melinda Macpherson, the RamCorps Program Manager.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
  • Have reliable transportation, and willingness to occasionally drive a RLR vehicle.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national or a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old.
  • Pass required criminal background checks, including a National Sex Offender Website search.
  • Be willing and able to complete the required service hours (quarter-time; 450 hours) between May 2026 and August 2026.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail to promote positive interactions with diverse audience members in an educational and/or tourism setting.
  • General interest in learning and accurately retelling of historical facts and stories (especially about Colorado history).
  • Current or prior experience in delivering non-formal educational programs that engage a public audience.

  • Hands-on experience in historical interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support with the Rock Ledge Ranch education program and interpretation programs.
  • Engage with Ranch staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Deliver interpretation programming in period-appropriate attire to provide an immersive and engaging educational experience.
  • Provide direct services, strengthen the community, and build the organization’s capacity.
  • Accurately complete and submit enrollment paperwork and reports; report data as requested.
  • Use a computer for e-mail communication and online reporting.
  • Be respectful, collaborative, and constructive in working environments.
  • Uphold a passion for community building and making new connections.
  • Wear official AmeriCorps identity items such as name tags, T-shirts, and lapel pins during all AmeriCorps service.
  • Participate in weekly check-ins and semi-annual performance reviews with the site supervisor.
  • Submit an online biweekly timesheet to the site supervisor.
  • Represent AmeriCorps, Colorado State University Extension, and the LHA professionally.
  • Perform basic housekeeping in the historic areas.
  • Demonstrate traditional crafts, cooking, and culture.
  • Enthusiastically initiate conversations with visitors of varied ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Tell the story of the Pikes Peak region and of the people who lived and worked at Rock Ledge Ranch in a compelling and thought-provoking way.
  • Conduct hands-on historical and educational activities for visitors.
  • Supervise adult and junior volunteers.
  • Obtain an in-depth and varied historical knowledge of American history and culture through continuous training and research.
