About The Position

ENSCO is seeking a Railway Research Engineer with limited experience within the transportation industry to provide engineering and instrumentation system installation and operation in support of research, testing and training services to the surface transportation industry (rail, trucking, bus, auto). Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Writing research and/or test plans, test reports Conducting research/testing Data analysis Applies physics and sound engineering principles to solve complex engineering problems Fixtures and mechanical component design by hand calculations/Finite Element Analysis Create manufacturing drawings Installation of instrumentation sensors (strain gages, accelerometers, displacement sensors, thermocouples, among others) Setting up data acquisition systems including scale factor, sampling rates and filter frequencies Operation of data acquisition system during testing operations in laboratory, on track and remotely Reading and interpreting electronic data charts during testing operations Read and interpret test plans, schedules and other written instructions received from the test engineers and project managers Prepares accurate daily logs as required by the Company, FRA, and other governing agencies Accountable for compliance of all operating rules, policies and guidelines Attend rules and safety classes and ensure all rules are followed as directed by the Company, FRA, and other governing agencies Any other duties as assigned by the Company Railroad regulations require that the selected candidate must pass an e-RAILSAFE security background check and online safety tests to work on railroad properties. Wearing safety equipment (hardhat, steel-toe boots, protective vest and protective eyeglasses) when working on railroad properties is also a requirement. ENSCO will provide all necessary safety equipment. This safety sensitive position will be subject to drug and alcohol screening.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/mechatronics engineering program with 2 years of experience
  • Background in solid mechanics, structures
  • Background in electronic signal processing and postprocessing
  • Introduction to Finite Element Method
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of various sensor types and the application thereof for velocity, acceleration, strain, force, and other parameters
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast pasted environment
  • Observe all safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain focus for the entirety of the shift
  • Ability to build professional and courteous relationships with your colleagues and supervisors
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team
  • Must be able to safely climb a 15-foot-high ladder

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in engineering design, FEA, and testing
  • Active contributor in relevant professional organizations within the transportation industry (ASME, SAE, SEM, among others)
  • Experience in specifying and installing instrumentation systems
  • Experience performing testing vehicles and products for rail, road, air, or other modes of transportation
