About The Position

AECOM is seeking a creative, highly talented, and experienced junior level Rail / Transit Transportation Planner II to join our North Texas Transit/Rail team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in transit or transportation planning, and familiarity with urban/regional planning and GIS. This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of transit planning projects and contribute to the growth of our practice. Transit planning projects will encompass a range of transit modes including light rail, commuter rail, high speed rail, local fixed-route bus, bus rapid transit, and micro-transit, among other transit-supportive studies. The selected candidate will support efforts such as feasibility studies, alternative analyses, public and stakeholder engagement activities, transit operations planning, zero-emission studies, strategic plans, rural transit projects, transit consolidation studies, GIS mapping, grant writing, and transit policy and research projects.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Transportation Planning, Regional/Urban Planning, Political Science, Public Administration or a related field.
  • Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of the North Texas region.
  • Previous work experience or prior coursework in transit and/or transportation planning.

Responsibilities

  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans and programs.
  • Collects and effectively synthesizes a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, roadway network, crash records, and asset inventories.
  • Works with the Transit/Rail team to conduct equitable and thoughtful public and stakeholder outreach, supporting the preparation of materials and presentations.
  • Analyzes data and prepares detailed thematic maps for use in presentations, memos, and reports.
  • Conducts concept-level evaluation of transit/transportation improvement options.
  • Documents and presents findings on transit/transportation planning tasks through technical reports, memos, and presentations.
  • Researches and references current transportation-related topics at local, State, and Federal levels.
  • Assists with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers.
  • Supports planning and project development activities for transportation projects under the supervision of more senior staff.
  • Assists with proposal development and business development activities.
  • Supports the culture of the Transit/Rail team by contributing to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Takes initiative to learn new tools, methods, and planning concepts to support project delivery and professional growth.
