POSITION SUMMARY Prepare patients for examinations, explain procedures and respond to patient questions. Perform diagnostic procedures for patients as ordered by physicians. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of a specialized training program in Radiological Technology by approved the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Experience: One year of experience preferred performing radiological procedures in a hospital, clinic or physician’s office. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of radiologic equipment and procedures and safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics and patient movement. Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively and to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures. Ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment problems and perform simple adjustments. License/Certification/Registration: Registered with the ARRT in Radiology. Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Receives general supervision from the Practice Manager. SUPERVISION GIVEN None Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Greet patients and obtain the physician’s x-ray/bone density study from them. Retrieve and verify file data on return patients. Obtain and document patient histories. Prepare patients for examinations, position patients and adjust equipment following established procedures. Explain procedures to patients and respond to patient’s questions. Operate radiologic equipment following prescribed procedures and safety standards. Examine radiologic film/bone density report print outs for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification and distortion. Develop and process radiologic digital images and transmit to radiologists for reading and interpretation. Maintain accurate records of examinations performed. Accept patient telephone calls and respond to questions. Maintain radiologic equipment, examination rooms and stock of necessary medical and radiologic supplies. Perform other duties as required. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
