The Registered Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing radiology procedures in accordance with clinicians' orders, exam protocols and instructions. They are to instruct the patient regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results, and assess and interpret data on patients. The technologist will identify patient requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provide care as stipulated in the departmental policy. They are expected to follow prescribed safety standards in operating equipment, maintain all equipment in appropriate operating condition, and maintain examination rooms and work areas, keeping all necessary items stocked. They should monitor radiology procedures and exams and provide quality imaging, while providing all services needed for their patient and maintaining a positive patient relation atmosphere. The technologist must maintain accurate department records, reports and files as directed, and follow HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. As a member of the Radiology care team, the technologist works collaboratively with other department members, clinicians, and personnel to assure the safe and accurate delivery of care. They will follow aseptic procedures and precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious material, and adhere to safety and infection control guidelines and policies established by the hospital. In addition, the technologist performs a range of technical services in a cross-functional mode to comprehensively serve patient needs as assigned.
