About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the supervision and coordination of the Radiology Technical Staff for performance, quality, coverage, schedules, and time off including front office staff. Ensures that high quality exams are performed and monitors RIS and PACS systems daily. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews overtime, vacation and absence forms, and completes assigned staff evaluations. Counsels and assists personnel with problems, questions or conflicts. Orders supplies, maintains a monthly count of examinations, and assures that the department runs smoothly. Takes x-rays, monitors RIS/PACS, maintains a day book, reassures and explains procedures to patients, assists radiologists and/or clinic physicians/providers. Performs quality assurance daily on processor. Keeps track of all film badge readings and maintains an organized department. Assist RIS/PACs Administrator in maintaining the RIS/PACS system. Maintains QA/QC requirements for NY State. Performs related work as required by the department, Director of Imaging, and or Radiologist. Communicating with vendors, placing orders, handling PO requisitions. Assisting Radiologist with teaching files and setting up protocols. Oversees service maintenance on machines, reviews service invoices, initiates service calls. Set-up, perform, and supervise all QA on machine from fellow technicians and service technicians. Initiate quarterly, semi-annual, and annual Medical Physicist testing. Documents Physicist reporting and compliance. Ensures monitoring of radiation safety. Answers to state inspector on a yearly basis. Take complaints from Radiologists, physicians, clinical staff, patients, etc. Try to rectify complaints. Schedule time-off between personnel; writing yearly evaluations and employee conferences. Assist in hiring Radiology personnel. Monitors history of employee radiation dosages. Utilizes RIS/PACS System to enter, retrieve, and maintain data. Attends OSHA initially at orientation and annually thereafter. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS: Direct contact with patients and physicians of the group. Ability to work closely with clinic physicians and radiologists in dealing with routine x-rays and routine and complex fluoroscopic procedures. Must show considerable empathy towards patients and the ability to establish an effective working relationship with associates, peers, and the medical staff. Ability to coordinate the activities of the department and to demonstrate leadership skills.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a certified x-ray training program plus an ARRT certificate and current New York State license
  • Six years in-patient hospital experience as an Assistant Chief Technologist or Chief Technologist, or in lieu thereof, five years experience in an ambulatory health care setting with at least two of those five years in the position of Chief Technologist or Assistant Chief Technologist
  • Considerable knowledge and skill in the practice of diagnostic x-ray techniques, utilizing sophisticated x-ray equipment and RIS/PACS/EPIC systems for imaging management
  • Ability to interpret and to carry out appropriately the orders and requests of physicians for diagnostic imaging
  • Requires sitting, standing bending and reaching
  • May require lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment such as computer, fax, calculators and telephone
  • Requires normal hearing and vision
