About The Position

The Radiology Director manages the Radiologic Department, establishing policies, procedures, standards, and objectives for all imaging services. This role involves maintaining departmental policies, preparing work schedules, assigning personnel, evaluating work performance, and making recommendations for personnel actions. The Director is responsible for directing the maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies, and materials to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety for patients and staff. Key responsibilities include preparing written documentation, ensuring the delivery of quality services, acting as an educational resource, and establishing and maintaining communication within the department and with other hospital departments. The Director also develops professional affiliations, oversees new testing procedures and protocols, encourages new techniques and research findings, recommends competent qualified personnel, participates in PI programs, and maintains safety, environmental, and infection control policies. This position provides radiologic services to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, utilizing age-specific knowledge and skills. Professional growth and development are enhanced through educational programs, literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. The Director attends required meetings, participates on committees, maintains X-ray and other equipment, performs preventative maintenance, contacts outside service for major malfunctions, and ensures the orderliness and cleanliness of work areas. Additional duties include checking equipment, supplies, and accessories, obtaining patient history, answering patient questions, explaining procedures, scheduling cases, and transporting patients.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Previous experience as radiologic technologist and/or radiation therapy technologist
  • Certification in Radiologic Technology or other area of primary imaging expertise
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology School or other school of primary imaging expertise
  • Ability to answer telephones
  • Ability to coordinate events
  • Ability to maintain logs
  • Ability to maintain patient charts
  • Ability to research information

Responsibilities

  • Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety environmental and infection control standards.
  • Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.

  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department.

  • Acts as an educational resource and is available for consultation of medical, nursing, and administrative staff.
  • Establishes and maintains communication within the department and with other hospital departments.
  • Develops relationships with professional affiliations and others as is appropriate.
  • Oversees new testing procedures and related protocol.
  • Encourages and approves introduction and demonstration of new techniques, equipment and research findings.
  • Recommends a sufficient number of competent qualified personnel to provide appropriate patient care.
  • Participates in PI programs.
  • Establishes and maintains safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures for the department.
  • Provides radiologic services to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, using the knowledge/skills unique to the requirements of each age group to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
  • Maintains X-ray and other equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts outside service for major malfunctions.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.
  • Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis.
  • Obtains patient history, answers patient questions and explains the procedure.
  • Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
  • Transports patients to radiographic room; prepares and maintains room.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
