About The Position

The Radiologic Technologist’s primary job function is to provide patient care and technical skills in the operation of diagnostic radiographic equipment for diagnostic and evaluation purposes.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized Radiologic Technologist Program from an accredited school.
• Must hold a current Washington State Radiologic Technologist Certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required or must be able to obtain within first 90 days of employment.
• One year of experience in a health care environment.
• Inputting data/typing, copying, handling/griping, answering telephones, calibrating equipment, computer skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform exams and to produce diagnostic films/images for interpretation.
• Knowledge of computer applications and equipment related to work.
• Effectively work in a multi-task environment, prioritizing tasks properly, and completing tasks in a timely manner.
• Basic computer experience; adequate typing.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to work easily and in a friendly manner with the general public and occasionally handle the hostile or disgruntled patient.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other staff and management and with a wide range of patients.
• Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining productive work teams.
• Moderate physical activity.
• Requires standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
• Occasionally, light lifting is necessary.
• Must be able to work under physical and emotionally stressed conditions.
• Other requirements include: light physical effort; repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and/or fingers, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling; frequent sitting; lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 20 pounds, with proper lifting techniques.
• Flexibility with schedule to cover hours possibly outside normal workweek, such as Saturdays or on call hours.
• Must be able to pay attention to detail, perform calculations and explain processes to patients.
• Ability to interpret and manipulate data, analyze, assessing/evaluating, explaining/teaching, problem solving/reasoning, and exercise good judgment.
• Must demonstrate concern for accuracy and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of clinical policies and procedures.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Self directing and organized.
• Ability to reason objectively.
• Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.

• Ability to read computer keyboard, monitor, and documents; prepare and analyze documents; read extensively; receive and convey detailed information orally, by telephone and in person; convey accurate and detailed instructions by speaking to others in person and by telephone.
• Tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids or tissue. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate, is required

Nice To Haves

• Current Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technicians (ARRT) preferred or registry eligible.
• Previous experience in a community health center preferred.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine x-ray procedures as needed, including image production, archiving, and related paperwork as needed.
• Operates computer and radiographic equipment for image production and documentation of images, while ensuring optimal quality images by keeping individual and collective doses as low as is reasonably achievable (ALARA).
• Provides prompt, courteous service while establishing effective communication with providers and other staff.
• Prepares patient for radiographic procedures by accurately assessing patient’s needs and providing patient education in all age-specific groups and ensures patient safety during X-ray exams, spirometry studies and EKG exams.
• Provides timely follow through of appropriate radiographic diagnosis.
• Instructs students on clinical radiographic skills following the appropriate curriculum as provided by the college/university.
• Demonstrates knowledge of billing process, image archiving, security, and tracking.
• Maintains strict confidentiality/privacy of all patient information.
• Attends department meetings, in-services and disaster drills.
• Practices safety measures in radiography and Environment of Care.
• Quality Improvement (QI) measures will be used to monitor accuracy, completeness, and repeat rate for x-rays.
• Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor/director.
• Expected to be prepared to start shift at scheduled time, meet attendance standards, and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
