About The Position

The Radio Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective operation of all communications equipment on board the rig. The Radio Operator’s principal responsibility is to operate and maintain the equipment used for emergency reporting to the highest of standards and in accordance with Borr Drilling policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Radio Operator certificate / GOC GMDSS - Flag endorsed
  • Offshore Medical Certificate
  • BOSIET OPITO
  • Previous experience as a Radio Operator in the Oil & Gas industry, preferably offshore
  • Proven safety record from previous operations
  • Effective communication skills: Fluency in written and spoken English required
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to follow directions
  • Computer literate, proficient in MS Office, Outlook and Vantage

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently perform all duties assigned by the OIM
  • Ensure compliance with Company HSE policies and procedures and responsible for correcting or notifying Responsible Persons of any unsafe acts and/or conditions which exist
  • Demonstrate knowledge and utilization of Company’s Integrity Management System and ensure understanding and application of updates, changes and working instructions
  • Actively participate in and contribute to weekly or special operations safety meetings and ensure any concerns or issues are reported appropriately
  • Operate radio, GMDSS and any other associated communications equipment
  • Maintain GMDSS log book and other statutory communications logs as required for location
  • Monitor marine frequencies for pertinent transmissions
  • Transcribe and file radio traffic messages
  • Maintain log of communications to and from rig
  • Maintain watch on air band for specific area of responsibility
  • Responsible to watch all aircraft on final approach and departing to airspace boundary limits
  • Maintain record of INMARSAT, EPIRB, SART’s, essential flares and smoke signals for the rig and lifeboats
  • Coordinate crew changes and allocate accommodation to joining crews and maintain accurate POB lists
  • Maintain arrival/departure log for all types of transportation to and from rig
  • Responsible for logging any vessels that come into the radius of 500 MTRs of rig, including tracking the times of those vessels entering and departing the 500 MTRs radius
  • Responsible for communications between vessels traveling to/from rig
  • Responsible for informing OIM or Barge Engineer if a vessel within the radius 500 MTRs of rig is adrift, collision etc.
  • Responsible for the daily contact with any standby boats situated around the rig
  • Ensure all relevant radio operator books and nautical books are maintained accurately and updated in a timely manner and in accordance with any Company or Statutory requirements
  • Responsible for the production of accurate muster lists as per Station Bill and current POB and posting at the lifeboat stations and main notice boards daily
  • Responsible for coordination of transportation and ensure accurate relay of weather conditions to shore bases as required
  • Log all weather conditions on a regular basis as directed by OIM or Barge Engineer
  • Responsible to maintain navigation and meteorological systems on the rig to level of competence, reporting defects to the OIM or Barge Engineer
  • Maintain record of crew and baggage weight for Heli-transfers/crew changes
  • Complete any other logs or paperwork as required and directed by OIM
  • Administrative duties on Borr Drilling Observation Program as instructed by SPC
  • Liaise with Helicopter Landing Officer in reference to helicopter movements and standby boat
  • Ensure compliance with requirements for all communication equipment during radio silence
  • Certification of Radio room equipment is valid at all times, anticipating inspections
  • Ensure knowledge of emergency procedures with regard to radio room operations during an emergency and maintain and have ready all emergency contact numbers and frequencies
  • Ensure knowledge of rig abandonment procedures and be prepared to act quickly and calmly under the direction of the OIM
  • In case of personal injury be prepared to render assistance within competency levels and report any injuries to rig supervisors as required
  • Understand and properly execute emergency assignment in accordance with Station Bill
  • Be knowledgeable of company safety policies and procedures related to own area of responsibility including use and location of fire-fighting, emergency and lifesaving equipment
  • Assist with maintenance of all communications equipment including but not limited to VHS equipment, antenna systems, PA systems, lifeboat radios etc.
  • In case of equipment damage, report to relevant supervisor immediately
  • Maintain good housekeeping and ensure work area is clean, tidy and free of hazards
  • Ensure clear and comprehensive handovers are communicated to relief personnel
  • Personally achieve and maintain required standards for own training and competency requirements for job role
  • Perform other duties, complete additional tasks and support ad hoc projects as required
  • Work with assigned assessor to complete Borr Competence Management System “BCAMS” and where necessary, identify any areas for development. Provide demonstrable evidence to complement the assessor outcomes
  • Familiarize with Borr Drilling QHSE procedure to understand the responsibilities assigned to your position and comply with the same
  • Abide and promote Borr Drilling Life-Saving rules at all times
  • You have the authority and responsibility to STOP any job that is unsafe
  • Actively participate in Borr Drillings Behavior Based Safety (BBS Card) program
  • You have the responsibility to report any unplanned event to your supervisor immediately
  • Ensure you understand your responsibilities during an emergency and participate in all emergency drills
  • You have the responsibility to keep your work area safe at all times
