About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Radio Alarm Technician to join our Maintenance & Support Services division at CPChem located in Pasadena. The Radio Alarm Technician reports directly to the Controls and Analytical Systems Team Leader. Primary duties are to serve as a system Technician for the trunked Radio System, the plant wide Emergency Alarm System, and the Fire Detection/Suppression Systems. Coordinating and scheduling all PMs associated with the EAS and Radio Systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the reliability and safety of our radio and alarm systems within the Manufacturing & Projects business unit.   The successful candidate will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams. This position requires a proactive approach to system maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement, underpinning our commitment to safety and operational integrity.

Requirements

  • An associate’s degree in instrumentation or electronics from a trade school or junior college OR a High School Diploma AND 5+ years of equivalent experience in this field, such as maintenance service work performed on radio and emergency alarm equipment
  • Must have a basic understanding of electronic theory and digital logic system
  • Must be capable of instructing maintenance personnel in troubleshooting techniques and maintenance procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarization with Motorola ASTRO 25 Trunked Radio Systems and/or Onyx and Notifier fire alarm equipment
  • Working knowledge of FCC rules and regulation.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA rules and regulation.
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of electronic equipment design and construction pertaining to radio communications and/or control equipment for fire safety systems.
  • Working knowledge of CCTV systems.
  • Familiarization with card access systems

Responsibilities

  • Technical consultant with contract engineering firms and project engineers on new installations/modifications/upgrades to the plant Radio/Alarm/CCTV Systems and other field equipment.
  • Coordinate the rental of radios by contractors during outages and program the rental radios to ensure proper operation on our Motorola Astro 25 Radio System.
  • Perform/coordinate software and hardware upgrades on the assigned systems.
  • Coordinator for the checkout and startup of additions to field devices. Oversee both contractor and CPC personnel
  • Assist Industrial Hygienist with special projects and evaluation of new safety equipment.
  • Assist Control Systems group with IPS PMs during outages.
  • Provides 24-hour Radio/EAS Systems support of Operating Units during upsets as well as outages.
  • Provides 24-hour on call Radio/EAS Systems support
