Requirements

  • ARRT or registry eligible
  • Graduate Of An Accredited School Or Training Program For Radiation Therapy Thechnology.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the correct procedure/treatment to the correct patient, without exception.
  • Obtains history and /or examination data and evaluates for contraindicating conditions.
  • Makes and applies blocks for shielding.
  • Applies supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
  • Applies tattoos to mark point of beam concentration.
  • Takes port films to ensure localized region to be treated.
  • Performs simulation procedures.
  • Calculates doses of radiation to be applied in treatment.
  • Adjusts and controls the equipment for the delivery of ionizing radiation.
  • Provides emotional support, comfort. Education and information to patients.
  • Ensures that any preparatory instructions are relayed to nursing staff for inpatients on a timely basis, so that procedures/treatments are not delayed due to inadequate or untimely preparation.
  • Keeps Radiation Oncologist advised on all aspects of care provided to their patients, ensuring prompt notification when problems, or potential problems arise.
  • Ensures that equipment is fully operational prior to each day's use.
  • Performs minor repairs and calibrations, so that outside service calls are avoided for adjustments that are within the scope of the Therapist's ability to handle.
  • Performs duties of clerical and transportation personnel as needed.
  • Prepares, processes or maintains records, reports, forms, logs and other documentation.
  • Participates in the training of students and new employees.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains skill competence.
  • Enters data into clinic computer system and bills correctly and appropriately for procedures given.
  • Maintains/adds chemicals to the processor if needed and develops port and simulation films.
  • Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures.
  • Attends annual in services as required by the Radiation Oncology department and SMH.
  • Performs weekly and monthly quality assurance on machines as needed.
  • Rotates in areas of simulation and treatment.
  • Educates patients and explains the procedures prior to performing them in simulation, clinic visits and treatment.
  • Performs other clinical duties as assigned.
