About The Position

The Radiation Therapist provides all aspects of direct patient care during the delivery of radiation treatments as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. Activities related, but not limited to, patient care includes scheduling, patient education and record keeping of all aspects of the daily treatments. Salary Range: $36.07-$54.10 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited radiation therapy technology education program
  • Must be registered by the ARRT or board eligible.
  • Must be licensed by New York State Department of Health as a Radiation Therapy Technologist (Radiation Therapist)
  • Previous experience preferred but not required.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient with the following preferred but not required: Elekta Versa HD, Varian 2100EX, Philips Big Bore RT CT Simulator, Philips TumorLOC, Philips Pinnacle, and Mosaiq R&V System.

Responsibilities

  • Treatment Delivery : Administering radiation doses as planned by a radiation oncologist.
  • Patient Care : Explaining treatment plans, answering questions, monitoring for side effects, and providing a caring and safe environment.
  • Maintain the treatment schedule for patients and the department
  • Technical Operation : Calibrating, operating, and maintaining radiation equipment (e.g. linear accelerators) and CT for treatment simulations.
  • Patient Safety : Precisely positioning patients and using imaging to target tumors, while protecting patients and staff from radiation exposure.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Exposure Control Manual regarding; universal precautions, bloodborne pathogen, disposal of needles, syringes and sharps, cleanup procedures for blood and body fluid spills, storage, handling and disposal of medical waste and all department specific policies.
  • Documentation : Maintaining detailed records of treatments and patient progress.
  • Collaboration : With radiation oncologists, nurses, and medical physicists and dosimetrists.
  • Participate in clinical training of RTT students
  • Participate in department quality assurance and chart rounds meetings.
  • Professionalism Adheres to hospital policies and procedures related to mandatory education, annual health assessment and licensure verification.
  • Other duties as assigned within scope of practice
