Under limited supervision of a Radiation Physicist 3 or other supervisory official in the Department of Environmental Protection, conducts and assigns radiological surveys and inspections; performs standard and special laboratory procedures to evaluate environmental samples for radioactive concentration; conducts and leads environmental sampling and quality assurance associated with radioactively contaminated site decommissioning and environmental sampling associated with radiological assessment of accidents involving radioactive materials and nuclear power electric generating stations; does other related duties as required. Specific to the Position Positions 1, 2, & 3: Meet training requirements laid out in Federal NRC Agreement and in individual training journals for various types of radioactive materials licenses, as assigned. Position requires knowledge of NJ's and Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations, federal guidance on licensing, assessing the safe use of radioactive materials and ensuring occupational and public dose limits are not exceeded by licensees. Responsible for responding to radiation emergencies 24/7 as member of the Radioactive Materials Radiological Assessment Team (RAMRAT). Ability to utilize specialized equipment to measure alpha, beta, gamma and neutron radiation with the ability to interpret results to determine compliance with state and federal standards. Positions 4 & 5: Review initial and renewal radon measurement and mitigation applications from individuals and businesses seeking certification, perform business inspections and investigations independently, maintain the NJ Radon database, inspect installed mitigation systems, present at outreach events, support management of the State Indoor Radon Grant process, monthly reporting review, billing, enforcement, and conduct radon research efforts.
