About The Position

As a growing Department of Defense Contractor, AUSGAR Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Radiation Detection R&D Engineer to join our team of smart and innovative technical team members at NIWC PAC – Bayside in the Point Loma area of San Diego, CA. The Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific is a research facility targeted at driving innovation and warfighter information advantage in support of the US Navy and other DoD-related missions. We are looking for a motivated engineer to join the project to design, develop and deploy radiation detection systems and enable technologies. This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, scientists and technicians to research detection technologies, interface with users to understand needs and requirements and field complete radiation detection solutions.

Requirements

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Requires a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in nuclear, materials, chemical, mechanical, electrical engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university and 5-9 years of related work experience.
  • Must be a self-starter with experience conducting research and development in the areas of sensor development, radiation detection and related technologies.
  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles and theory; experience demonstrating application of those concepts and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must have hands-on experience developing and executing test plans and preparing test and data reports.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team and able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area.
  • Experience with radiation detection instrumentation: NIM electronics, digitizers and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience in working with DoD users and interfacing with military and civilian experts.
  • Knowledge in radiation science and nuclear engineering and related discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience with radiation detection concepts, radiation detector development and testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering environment.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving capability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative, but practical solutions to advanced technical problems in engineering.
  • Perform modeling, characterization, testing and data analysis of radiation sensors and components for both research and development and test and evaluation.
  • Perform technical analysis and troubleshooting for production, maintenance, changes and modifications and other related requirements for project systems.
  • Provide engineering support, process management and quality assurance for the project.
  • Interface with and support project system users in various training events and exercises, could potentially include travel.
  • Write reports, develop presentations and present them at engineering meetings.
  • Develop technical descriptions and manuals, specification sheets and other documentation for project systems.
