About The Position

The Nebraska Racing & Gaming Commission is seeking a detail-oriented Financial Risk Analyst to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the integrity of Nebraska's racing and gaming industries. In this new position, you will evaluate the financial suitability of applicants, audit licensed operators, and analyze complex financial records to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with regulatory standards. Your expertise will directly support the Commission's mission to uphold fairness and trust in gaming and racing operations across Nebraska.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting (see also Legal Requirements).
  • Positions in this classification are subject to Title 42, Nebraska Administrative Code, Chapter 1 - Minimum Standards for Government Employees Identified as Auditors. The basic requirement is a bachelor's degree in business administration or the equivalent, with at least 24 semester hours of accounting or auditing. Any combination of education with a concentration in accounting and auditing experience acceptable to the Auditor of Public Accounts, may be substituted for the educational requirements in Section 002.01.
  • This position requires regular and reliable onsite attendance at our Lincoln, Nebraska office, as well as a valid driver's license. Must be able to drive a state car and/or provide independent authorized transportation. Travel to operator sites will be occasional day trips. NRGC employees are prohibited from gambling or placing a wager in any establishment licensed by the Commission.
  • A solid foundation in accounting principles, practices, and financial reporting, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • An interest in the Nebraska gaming industry's operational, regulatory, and financial frameworks.
  • Keen analytical skills to identify financial inconsistencies and subtle irregularities.
  • Ability to work respectfully with a diverse group of stakeholders, including Commission employees, gaming operators, and public officials.
  • Clear communication, both oral and written, to summarize complex ideas for all stakeholders.
  • Capability to prepare reports and review financial data for accuracy and compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years' experience conducting financial audits or reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates financial eligibility of licensing applicants through tax return analysis and source-of-funds verification.
  • Conducts audits of authorized gaming operators, including review of financial statements and corrective action plans.
  • Monitors monthly simulcast revenue and breeders' financial disbursements.
  • Reconciles audited financials with internal records and performs risk assessments.
  • Supports transparency and accuracy in all financial reporting activities.
  • Performs risk assessments based on revenue trends and operational data.
  • Embraces additional responsibilities as needed to support the Commission's evolving needs.
