About The Position

As an R&D System Engineering Intern, you will assist with the design, integration, and validation of complex medical device systems and capital equipment. These systems are used in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, including technologies for urology, neurology, peripheral interventions, telemetry communication, and patient monitoring. The EME R&D group supports the design and development of devices and therapies for a patient’s entire continuum of care—from diagnostics to treatment—striving to innovate and solve unmet clinical needs. Work model, sponsorship, relocation: This role follows an on-site work model, requiring interns to be in our Arden Hills, MN office four days per week. Relocation and housing assistance may be available to eligible candidates. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Qualified applicants of all ages who are starting (or restarting) their careers will be considered.

Requirements

  • Must graduate between December 2026 – May 2028
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization
  • Must be able to commit to one of the following full-time internship periods (12 weeks, 40 hours per week): May 18 – August 7 or May 26 – August 14
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from the Arden Hills, MN Boston Scientific corporate work location. Boston Scientific is not responsible for employees’ transportation to/from work

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (hardware, software, mechanical, clinical) to develop and integrate system-level solutions for medical device capital equipment
  • Support system architecture design, requirements definition, and interface specification for new and existing products
  • Assist in system integration, verification, and validation activities, ensuring seamless operation of hardware and software components
  • Participate in risk analysis, design reviews, and troubleshooting of system-level issues
  • Ensure engineering solutions align with clinical needs, regulatory standards, and patient safety requirements
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives
  • Participate in Agile development processes
