The R&D Senior Mechanical Engineer supports a team of mechanical engineers in development of electric motor technologies and products by identifying and implementing innovative solutions; helps manage motor technologies, platforms, and intellectual property. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 6 years of experience with Electric Motors and minimum 4 years in AC Induction Motors.
  • Knowledge of electric motor technologies, advanced design methodologies (FEA), manufacturing processes, and customer support experience.
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of UL, CSA, CE, IEC, NEMA regulatory compliance (preferred).
  • Lean Six Sigma or PMP – Certifications, Master’s Degree in Engineering, SAP, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and computer programming.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes significantly to successful outcomes in technology development, product development, and support of existing products. Conducts a detailed cost‑benefit analysis to optimize designs.
  • Develops mechanical designs for industrial motors in accordance with internal specifications and industry standards, covering fractional through integral horsepower ranges. Maintains strong expertise in AC induction and permanent‑magnet motor design methodologies, modeling techniques, test standards, and analysis of motor test data.
  • Applies deep motor‑design expertise to generate innovative and creative solutions for complex R&D assignments. Ensures proper protection of newly developed intellectual property. Serves as a project leader or senior project contributor, providing guidance in the use of engineering tools, processes, and methods.
  • Collaborates with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales on product specifications, application support, and regulatory or certification requirements and processes. Sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues to achieve timely, high‑quality results.
