About The Position

/ The R&D Engineer works with the Director of Powder Products on research and development activities for organizational products, services, or ideologies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate personnel.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Development software; Internet software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
  • Versatile and willing to help the manufacturing team while also putting safety as a top priority.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external customers.
  • Exceptional organization skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to be proactive and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Detail-orientated with ability to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, in conjunction with marketing and engineering management, promising areas of research or technology that address unmet needs and have large potential markets.
  • Communicates to senior management overview of all products under development, and their stage of development.
  • Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resource requirements.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.
  • Submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds or allocates funds from department budget.
  • Designs test plans, operating procedures, safety protocols, and schedules for R&D toll melting projects.
  • Projects include alloy development, material production in ingot and powder forms.
  • Assists with communication of R&D toll melting project results to customers.
  • Communicates with engineering and project management on lessons learned as R&D work converts to customer capital equipment orders.
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, to inform management of status of each project.
  • Other duties as assigned.
